About getting to know you
K.Autumn, is a pen name, short for Kelly Autumn Sperbeck. K.Autumn is also the personal design site for Kelly who is the owner of Relish At Home boutique & studio workshop, based in Berkeley, California.
Raised in Sonoma County, Kelly grew up with arts and crafts as a way to keep her hands busy, picking up sewing at age 12. Interest in fashion, and performing arts led to a brief five year stint in costume design which eventually relocated her to San Francisco State University where she studied business marketing and fashion and graduated with a BA in Apparel & Textile Design.
A serendipitous trip to New York in 2001 opened her eyes to the accessories industry and led to a career in the wholesale market. In the Fall of 2004, she left her job in the corporate world to pursue accessories design and to represent a talented group of young, emerging designers in the Bay Area. Relish At Home quickly evolved into a unique business model and opened as a boutique in 2005. Today the business serves as a shop and studio featuring Kelly's designs as well as celebrating handmade accessories and gifts made by independent designers, most of whom are based locally.
In the summer of 2005, a friend asked her to design a hairpin as a modern alternative to a veil for her wedding. One thing led to another, and the design was featured nationwide in 2006, and suddenly a new business was born almost overnight. Today Kelly juggles her time between running the boutique and designing in her studio.
Influenced by vibrant color, texture and fluidity, Kelly incorporates these elements into her work organically drawing inspiration from her childhood landscape growing up in the country, to her current urban dwellings. She fancies architecture, music, 1960s era graphics, european textiles, and her grandmothers jewelry box as current sources of inspiration.
